In discussing what sort of shoot Shelby was interested in doing, she mentioned that she wanted it to be business themed. The obvious thing to do would have been to shoot on the streets of Downtown Honolulu and that would have been fine and dandy. Instead, I wanted to be a little more obtuse and have fun with the theme, so I took her out of the expected context and stuck her (along with that office chair) on a hill at Kakaako Park, overlooking the city. It makes sense in today's world, where, with mobile devices, laptop computers and smart phones, we can conduct business from practically anywhere - rooftops, beaches, shopping malls, parks...you name it. From a visual standpoint, I thought the green of the grass and the red of the chair, would complement each other, and contrast against the more slate-like tones of her business attire and the Mac hardware.
I'm thrilled that I was able deviate from my typical shooting style (at least for a little bit). Now, I'm not completely happy with the results but mostly pleased nonetheless! :)
With graduation season coming around, I wanted to post a sample Marc-Orbito-style session to give people a better idea of what you get with one of my senior packages. Sure, I'll do the headshots, but I really enjoy doing more environmental style portraits that captures one's personality and interests. What better way to do that than than to photograph a person doing what they love?
